About CSP Global

Dr. Ryan Hubbard is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Program Chair for the Master’s in Sport Management Program. With over two decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Hubbard’s rich background brings a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge to his current position. With his leadership and expertise, students receive a comprehensive and relevant education to excel in their careers.

“I think this program is giving them the information to increase their tool set and make them more attractive for that next position,” Dr. Hubbard says. “I also get those honest answers from a lot of students in here too, that say, ‘You know what, I get a pay bump with a Master’s degree.'”

The online Master’s in Sport Management program at CSP Global is tailored to working professionals seeking to elevate their careers. Here are some unique elements that set the program apart:

  • Comprehensive Curriculum: The program covers a wide range of relevant topics, including management, leadership, human resource management, marketing, sports media, event management, legal aspects of sport, finance, sport sales, and fundraising. The breadth of topics ensures that graduates are well-equipped to handle the complexities of the sports industry.
  • Experienced Faculty: The faculty members bring real-world experience to the classroom. They are not just academics but active professionals in the sports industry, offering practical insights and firsthand knowledge. This blend of theory and practical information makes the learning experience highly applicable to current industry standards.
  • Flexible Learning: The program is fully online and asynchronous, allowing students to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. This flexibility is ideal for full-time professionals who have to balance work, family, and education.
  • Capstone Project: A significant component of the program is the capstone project, which allows students to apply their learning to real-world scenarios. Students can get their feet-in-the-door with opportunities to participate in applied research projects, shadow other Athletic Directors, or get professional industry experience through CSP Global’s partnership with the Minnesota Twins.

Joining The Program

The program attracts a diverse group of students, including K-12 teachers and coaches aiming to become athletic directors, public sector employees from organizations like YMCAs, parks and recreation departments, and current sports administrators looking to advance their careers. The program’s flexibility and practical approach make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking to enhance their credentials and expertise in sports management.

“We understand that the overwhelming majority of our students are working full time,” Dr. Hubbard says. “We have discussion boards that we ask students to interact with throughout the week. But we also have assignments. We try to spread them out every few weeks to make sure that students have time to successfully complete their assignments, and we make them manageable. “

To be considered for admission, applicants need a relevant undergraduate degree and professional experience in the sports industry. The program comprises 33 credits, with each course worth 3 credits. Students can complete the program in around 18 months, taking courses year-round with start dates in fall, winter, and summer.

Student Experience and Support

CSP Global emphasizes a personalized learning experience, even in an online setting. Faculty members are accessible and encourage students to reach out for support and guidance. Regular interaction through weekly discussion boards and assignments ensures that students stay engaged and on track.

“We put a premium on what our faculty bring to the classroom and how they can help our students,” Dr. Hubbard says. “This is a student-centered, student-focused curriculum. We’re not here to waste anyone’s time. We’re here to give you the knowledge, skills, and abilities to go where you want to go. And I think our faculty really helps do that.”

The program’s focus on practical application is evident in its curriculum and capstone projects. Students work on real-world problems, developing solutions that can be implemented in their current or future roles. This practical approach not only enhances learning but also makes graduates more attractive to potential employers.

“Some students are looking to work in professional sports,” Hubbard says. “Those jobs aren’t easy to get, and a lot of people want those jobs. Networking and who you know is a big part of that. Our faculty and our capstone projects like the Minnesota Twins introduce students to leaders who know people all over the country, and all over the world. So that network, to me, is really one of the key components of our program.”

CSP Global’s online Sport Management Master’s program offers a robust and flexible educational path for professionals looking to advance their careers in the sports industry. With a comprehensive curriculum, experienced faculty, and a focus on real-world application, this program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a variety of sport management roles.
